WITH a handful of Pershore Swimmers being invited to their associate Worcester Swimming club’s annual championships, it was their opportunity to impress the Worcester selectors enough to compete in league matches in the next 12 months.

With the first two of seven sessions completed, 10-year-old Tazmin Pugh has shown why she is aiming for Midland district qualifying times.

With an 18-second improvement coming from her 400-metre individual medley to record five minutes 58.49 seconds, she heads the 10-year-old club championships listings together with top placings in all the events she has competed.

These were the 100m butterfly (1.26.53), 200m backstroke (2.50.62), 200m breaststroke (3.26.18), 100m freestyle (1.12.13), 50m butterfly (36.76), 50m free (33.76) and 100m freestyle.

She is eighth overall in the FINA points ranking (taking the best result from each of the five disciplines) with 1,516 from the 75 female competitors through all the age ranges.

Lizzie Vizard (aged 12) also had good results coming sixth with 35.74 in the 50m freestyle, eighth in the 200m backstroke in 3.9.99 seconds, 200m breaststroke 3.29.20, 50m butterfly (49.42), 100m freestyle (1.24.37) lying 30th in the FINA points with 825.

Meanwhile, club-mate Alison Seward (aged 11) secured a top place in the 200m backstroke with a personal best time of 3.01.63 and fourth in the 50m butterfly (43.45) and 50m freestyle (36.19) and is in 48th place in the FINA with 594. Katie Sharratt (12) finished fifth in the 200m backstroke with 3.03.56 and 100m freestyle with 1.24.37.

Harry Sykes is heading the 12-year-old boys in all the events he has competed in being the 400m individual medley (6.03.29), the 50m freestyle (31.06), the 200m backstroke (3.04.00), the 50m butterfly (36.45) and again in the 100m freestyle with 1.09.98.
