BADSEY resumed their Worcestershire Hockey League Division One campaign with a bang as they thrashed Pershore 8-0.

A terrific team display downed their rivals after a cagey opening burst into life with Lynne Ellarby’s goal after Sarah Rickey intercepted a pass and sprinted forward.

The first-half was virtually one-way traffic as Pershore found it difficult to clear their lines at the back.

The speed and awareness of Badsey captain Karen Robinson in the circle enabled her to score two quick goals, both from build-up play down the right.

Fiona Jordan was next on the scoresheet with a sharp shot at the second attempt from a short corner.

The visitors went five goals up before half-time when a fine run and cross from Laura Moore enabled birthday girl Shelly Banner to poach a goal at the far post.

In the second period, Badsey tried to press high with player-of-the-match Nicky Beasley and Kay Amphlett running and distributing the ball well down the left.

Pershore had their best period of the game with a series of short corners which the Badsey defence could not clear properly.

Zoe Hodgkins made a fine goal-line clearance and keeper Rachel Leeming pulled off some crucial saves.

But the pressure left Pershore open at the back and another Badsey breakaway saw Banner finish with a simple tap-in.

Robinson bagged her hat-trick following another good cross from Rickey on the right.

Third-placed Badsey completed their goal spree when Rickey forced the ball home from close range.

They entertain Stourport thirds at Evesham High School on Saturday (noon).
