BROADWAY bowls ace Lynne Bowen is keeping her fingers crossed over the chance to be involved in the World Championships later this year.

The 38-year-old is one of two reserves for the England women’s squad for the competition to be held in Adelaide, Australia, in November.

If required to step up to the five-strong team, it would be Bowen’s second successive world championships, having represented her country in New Zealand four years ago.

However, despite being happy at getting the call-up, she admitted it will be tough as Bowls England do not normally have to use their back-up options.

“They have not taken a reserve before,”

said Bowen.

“The only way I will go is if one of the five drops out and even then they might take the other reserve.

“It’s nice to get the recognition. I didn’t expect to be called up so being a reserve is still good.”

Bowen, who lives in Worcester, has been playing bowls for 25 years and claimed the pairs bronze medal with Amy Gowshall at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

She also bagged her first outdoor singles title at the Ladies’ National Championships in Leamington Spa last August by beating Derbyshire’s Jo Skelton 21-10 in the final of the champion of champions competition.
