THE Cotswold League’s ‘A’ team semi-finals lived up to expectations with two close contests.

Ilmington and St Catharines will meet in the final on Tuesday, March 6, with the title at stake.

St Catharines had no reserves but saw off Tredington 3-1 with Will Kelly and James Elliott firing them ahead.

Toby Goodman made a brilliant reflex save and Finlay Walsh reduced the deficit at the other end.

However, a Saints breakaway resulted in another Kelly goal with two minutes to go.

In the other semi-final, holders Ilmington lived up to their favourites tag with a 6-1 beating of Shipston.

However, Shipston made a great start with Michael Merry scoring first. Ilmington struck back and, despite the fine form of keeper James Muncey, Matthew Davis equalised.

The equaliser opened the floodgates as Will Parr scored twice and Davis completed a four-goal haul.

Shipston defeated Tredington 3-2 in the match for third place with Richard Moss levelling and then scoring a late winner. Jake Faulkner was the other Shipston scorer, while Walsh and Tom Hatch replied.

The ‘B’ team semi-finals are today and the girls’ last-four matches take place next Tuesday.

Mickleton held out to gain their place in the ‘B’ last four alongside Shipston, Ilmington and St James.

Six teams were split into two groups and Shipston opened against Blockley with a 7-0 win through Luke Fresson (5) and Finlay Grey (2).

Mickleton beat Blockley 2-1 with Sadie Scott and Charlotte Millard on target and Toby Ellis replying.

Shipston beat Mickleton 2-1 through a Fresson double which Scott countered.

The other group was tight with Temple Guiting, on the back of a 5-0 win over Dormer House, losing 2-1 to St Davies.

Will Weaver and Joss Considine put the Saints ahead before Jack Daniels pulled a goal back. Dormer House broke late on through Esme Cottam to win 1-0 against St Davids.

Two Ellis goals gave Blockley victory over Dormer House in the match for seventh place.

Muncey scored for Shipston in a 1-0 quarter-final win over St Davids, while Scott scored the only goal for Mickleton against Temple Guiting.

St Davids earned fifth place with a 2-1 win over Temple Guiting 􀁧􀁧 Under 15s club league results: Ilmington Eagles 1 Ilmington Arrows 1; Arrows 3 Farnham Fireballs 3.
