EVESHAM United cannot afford to ease up as they bid to consolidate a play-off place in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West, according to manager Paul Collicutt.

The in-form Robins have climbed to fifth in the table on the back of a 10-game unbeaten run, including a remarkable eight consecutive victories.

But Collicutt believes that makes them a target for teams looking to put a spanner in the works and insists they need to be on their guard.

On Saturday, they head to 15th-placed Swindon Supermarine (3pm) before facing a rearranged match at relegation-threatened Wantage Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Collicutt said: “When a run like this happens it always makes the next game difficult because we are a scalp for somebody.

“We are in a play-off position but the easy part is getting there and the hard part is staying there.

“I have got to make sure we don’t take our foot off the throttle by preparing the team to go about their business as they have been doing.”

Evesham thrashed Supermarine 5-0 at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium in October but Collicutt feels the Wiltshire outfit are better than that scoreline suggests.

He said: “They created more chances against us than any other team this season.

“They are a good side, have taken some points off some good teams and are difficult to beat on their own patch.”

United were held to a 0-0 draw by fellow high-fliers Yate Town at home last Saturday.

It ended the Robins’ eight-match winning streak but was their seventh clean sheet in nine matches.

Tuesday’s league game at Cinderford Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and will have to be rearranged.

Midfielder Carl Brown is the only injury concern for Collicutt ahead of the Swindon clash after he damaged his knee and ribs.

He collided with one of the dug-outs following a sliding challenge against Yate.

Brown was replaced by Marcus Jackson, who could keep his place at the weekend.

United’s reserves won 3-2 at Droitwich in the Evesham Hospital Minor Cup.

They visit Solihull Moors on Saturday (3pm).
