PERSHORE Phoenix paddlers Emily Forrest and Matt Tresigne have been selected for the Great Britain under 18s squad after time trials in Liverpool.

Forrest, aged 15, and Tresigne, 17, joined their GB team-mates for a week of very intensive training on the River Severn as guests of the Fifth Worcester Sea Scout Group.

They are preparing for August’s major Dragon Boat World Championships in Welland, Canada.

National coach Mattie Richardson thanked Pershore for providing boats and equipment for the training.

Richardson said: “Pershore Phoenix have demonstrated support and commitment to youth development in this area.

“We look forward to again working with them in the forthcoming British Dragon Boat Association National League season to expand the opportunity for paddlers to gain valuable league racing experience.”

Richardson added: “Both Emily and Matt have excellent potential to do well in the sport at the highest level.

“They have worked very hard at their fitness and technique and they are a credit to their club.”

Dragon boat racing is an exciting, mixed sport with the age range of paddlers starting from 12-years-old and upwards.
