BREDON Star Rugby Club thrashed fellow strugglers Kingswood 41-5 in a must-win Gloucester Division One home clash.
A blistering start from Bredon saw them play some of their best and most controlled rugby in years.
Five tries in the first 25 minutes put Star on top but second-from-bottom Kingswood put pressure on the hosts’ scrum, driving over from five metres for a consolation try.
But, as Kingswood’s pack tired, Bredon took advantage of the open spaces, scoring two more tries to add a gloss to the final scoreline.
Joe Bawdon, Stef Ellis, Aaron Ridley, Nathan Barry, Mike Hickey, Matt Peters and Joe Carolan all dived over. Carolan kicked three conversions.
Eighth-placed Star visit leaders Longlevens on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the under 13s beat visitors Stow-on-the-Wold 19-7 in the Gloucestershire Cup quarter-finals.
Pershore return to Midlands Three West (South) action on Saturday at home to county rivals Upton.
