EVESHAM under 15s celebrated their first win of the season after a 31-20 triumph at Stourbridge.

Outside-centre Charlie Cross (2), Will Bugg (2) and captain Liam Berry scored the tries to cap an impressive team display.

After a series of promising performances, Evesham played with intent as a team and applied pressure from the start.

They took the lead and never looked like losing the advantage as the forwards laid a platform at set-pieces and in the loose.

The Evesham backs moved the ball wide and varied their line of attack.

Half-backs Jack Dempsey and Bugg pulled the strings, dictating play and driving their team-mates forward.

A few months ago, the side only had 12 players from local schools, who were new to the game, but they have gelled into a winning team.

Meanwhile, Evesham will host their second annual minis festival for under-sevens to 12s at the Lower Albert Road ground on Sunday.

Other clubs taking part are Bredon Star, Ledbury, Malvern and Tewkesbury: The first match will kick-off at 10.30am, with pool fixtures followed by cup and plate rounds.

Gates open at 9am, with a barbecue from 11am, and the last game is scheduled for 2pm.

There will also be other entertainment, and coaches will be on hand to talk to any parents who may be interested in their children playing for the club.
