WORCESTER Warriors director of rugby Dean Ryan has slammed his players after their 54-35 Aviva Premiership defeat against Wasps at Sixways.

Christian Wade scored a remarkable six tries for Wasps, who had the result sewn up at half-time after romping into a 33-15 interval lead.

Warriors finished with six tries and collected a losing bonus point from the match but Ryan said the first-half display was “unacceptable.”

Ryan fumed: “I thought the first 40 minutes was unacceptable.

“We have talked a lot about the way we wanted to finish.

“We are well aware we are trapped in a space where there’s not a huge amount for us above and nothing pulling us in from behind, but I thought the first 40 minutes was just wrong.

“We didn’t apply ourselves. We thought we would go out and play against one of the best sides and throw the ball about and we got picked off and it’s just unacceptable.

“We saw in the second half what we were capable of doing but I am not even going to gloss over it because the contest was over and that’s not what we want to do.

“I don’t want to be involved in any end of season jamborees.

“I think the integrity of the league and the integrity of this club is crucial.

“We have a responsibility to finish in the right way and the first 40 minutes was nowhere near that.”
