A 14-year-old girl is to get over a foot of hair cut off to support her teammate battling cancer.

Sophie George from Evesham is to get 18 inches of hair cut off, to raise money for her teammate at Badsey Rangers.

Josh Asbury, 9, was diagnosed with T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma in November and has since undergone chemotherapy.

Despite never having met Josh, Sophie decided to cut her hair to raise funds to support him and his family, as well as donating the hair to the Little Princess Trust.

Mum Fiona said: “They haven’t actually met before so it will be great for them to finally meet next week.

“We first came up with the idea because the Little Princess Trust always need hair for wigs, and they especially need long hair for this.

“We have waited and waited but she felt she would need a good reason before going for the chop, then we saw the story of Josh.

“She could’ve have done it just for the Princess Trust, but when you see something like this, on your doorstep, then you can do it to help support a local cause too.”

Evesham Journal: Sophie is going to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust, who use it to make wigs for children who have lost their own through cancer and other conditions Sophie is going to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust, who use it to make wigs for children who have lost their own through cancer and other conditions

The Little Princess Trust use the hair donated to them to make wigs for children who have lost their own due to cancer treatment and other conditions.

Sophie is planning to get the haircut at the beginning of March, at the Lykke and Hygge on Vine Street, Evesham.

It will be only the fifth time in her life she has had a haircut.

Despite planning to get over a foot of hair cut off, Sophie remains unphased by the idea.

Her mum added: “I don’t think it’s so much nerves that she has, in fact I think part of her is actually really looking forward to it.

“She’s a teenager at the end of the day, so not having to do as much preparation in the morning and not having to keep it all tied in a towel every time she washes it is something she is excited for.

“But how she will feel after, who knows?”

So far, Sophie’s GoFundMe has received £730 in donations.

This will go towards the fund set up by Josh’s family, which has now reached an astonishing £15,000.

Speaking after breaking the £6,000-mark, Josh’s dad Andy said: “It is really crazy.

“It is Josh’s money so we will wait until he has finished his treatment and then he can decide what he wants to do.”
