Three men have been arrested following a stabbing in Evesham town centre.

West Mercia Police was alerted to reports that a 17-year-old boy had been stabbed during an altercation at the junction of Swan Lane and High Street on Saturday night.

It has now been confirmed that three men were arrested as a result.

A 24-year-old was charged with affray and pleaded guilty at remand court on Monday, August 8, and has since been released on court bail.

Another man, 20, has been released under investigation while the third, 22, remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Jim Bryce said: “We’d like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident, and we do not believe there is any risk to the wider community.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and patrols have been increased in the area.”

The incident happened at around 10.40pm, with patrons at The Old Swanne Inn made to stay inside as police sealed with the alteraction.

A spokesperson for JD Wetherspoon, the company that owns the pub, said: "This incident had nothing to do with the pub whatsoever.

"No customers from our pub were involved and neither group were in our pub.

"The police attended and asked us to shut our side door to prevent customers from going out there."

The victim was taken to hospital on blue lights by the ambulance service.

West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to Tesco Petrol Station on Worcester Road however it is not yet clear how the man got from Swan Lane to the petrol station.

Crews arrived to find armed police officers attempting to treat the victim.

A WMAS spokesperson said: "A teenager has suffered serious injuries after being stabbed in Evesham.

"Once police had made the scene safe, ambulance staff went forward to find that armed officers had already started treatment on the man. 

"He was assessed and received further advanced trauma care from the doctor on the car before he was taken on blue lights to a major trauma centre, with the doctor travelling with the crew."
