A SCHOOL had to be locked down due to a police incident.

Bengeworth Academy has written to parents to explain what happened after a suspected burglar entered the school grounds.

He had been running from police and was later arrested at a nearby caravan park.

Now, CEO of the Bengeworth Multi-Academy Trust David Coache has moved to reassure parents.

He said: "The police incident in the grounds of Bengeworth Academy, Burford Road did cause some alarm during Tuesday lunchtime, but our staff and children responded calmly and appropriately to ensure everyone remained safe.

“Whilst we hope we never have to instigate our lockdown procedures, the swift response of the school in this situation reassures all parents that children's safety is of paramount importance at all times.

“The professionalism of staff in this instance meant that the matter was resolved quickly and pupils' afternoon learning activities were not disrupted."
