A VIOLENT armed jewellery robbery involving men with balaclavas wielding an axe, a sledgehammer and a crowbar has resulted in a series of arrests.

The armed robbery at the unnamed jewellers in The Green in Broadway resulted in tens of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery being stolen by the masked gang.

However, today West Mercia Police executed three warrants with a large team of officers and arrests have now been made after the armed balaclava jewellery robbery in Broadway.

A number of suspects have so far been arrested with a 30-year-old arrested today (Wednesday) for perverting the course of justice as investigations took officers to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham following the terrifying raid at a jewellers in the Worcestershire village.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Percival said: "We have arrested a number of individuals on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary. The investigation has taken us as far afield as Birmingham and this morning a large team of officers from West Mercia Police have executed warrants at three jewellers in Birmingham as we have reason to suspect that some of the stolen property was taken to the jewellers by the suspects."

The suspects arrested are mainly in their late teens and early 20s, detectives have confirmed.

Chief Inspector Chris Percival added: "We will leave no stone unturned to try and recover the stolen property but also to identify and to bring to justice any further outstanding offenders. Tackling violent crime and robbery is one of our key priorities."

We reported at the time that the robbery took place at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, September 20.

Three people wearing balaclavas forced entry into a jewellery shop in The Green. They attacked a member of staff before making off with jewellery.

The member of staff suffered minor injuries during the attack but was left very shaken.

The men were armed with a sledgehammer, an axe, and a crowbar.

A blue Range Rover was seen leaving the scene, where it was found burnt out on Saintbury Hill in Broadway. It is then believed they drove off in a black Mercedes registration NC10RWV.

Detective Chief inspector Chris Percival said: ‘’We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed or has dash cam footage of a blue range rover or black Mercedes being driven around Broadway or who saw the range rover being set on fire on Saintbury Hill.’’
